Afrotc pilot or cso spot?

Will joining afrotc during my junior year of college greatly inhibit me from being selected for a pilot or cso spot? I have about a 3.5 gpa currently, if that matters. I've heard it's going to make my chances much harder than if I would have joined during my freshman year. Is this true?
